Kamala Harris
Kamala Devi Harris, born October 20, 1964 was an American politician and lawyer. She is currently the 49th vice president of the United States. She is the first woman to be elected vice president, and she is also the highest-ranking female officer in American history. Being a part of the Democratic Party, she was the former attorney general of California in 2011-2017 and an United States senator representing California from 2017 to 2021. Harris was born and was raised in Oakland, California. Harris began her career at the Alameda County District Attorney's Office. After that, she was enlisted to the San Francisco District Attorney's Office. In 2003 she was elected San Francisco District Attorney. She was elected Attorney-General of California in 2010, and was reelected in 2014. Between 2017 and 2021, Harris was the junior United States senator for California. Harris beat Loretta Santiago in the 2016 Senate election and became the 2nd African American woman to serve in the Congress, and the first South Asian American American to do so in the United States Senate. Harris was a senator and was a vocal advocate for reforms to healthcare, federal cannabis de-scheduling, the possibility of citizenship for immigrants without a legal status, the DREAM Act, a ban against assault weapons, as well as progressive tax reform. The sharp questions she asked Trump officials in Senate hearings has earned her national attention, including the second Supreme Court nominee, Brett Kavanaugh, who was charged with sexual assault.
